NEWENS SENSEI’S PROMOTION It is our pleasure to inform you that Hoa Newens sensei was recently promoted to the rank of 7th dan (nanadan) in the New Year’s promotions issued by the Aikikai in Tokyo, Japan, on 1/9/12, as part of Kagami Biraki. Kagami Biraki, literally means "Mirror Opening" (also known as the "Rice Cutting Ceremony"), and is a traditional Japanese celebration that is held in many traditional martial arts schools in early January to renew dedication to the art.
